What’s Your Song?

songs, music

How do you start your day?  News on the TV? The Newspaper? Quiet? A devotional? Reading? Music?  How you start your day can determine the remainder of your day.  I often wake up with a song in my head.  What’s your song?

Life is one grand sweet song, so start the music… Ronald Reagan

How you start your day can determine how the remainder of your day goes.  For example, If you start with watching the news on the tv, that intense, stressful, media display can outplay in and throughout your day. Little things may bother you.  However, if you begin your day quietly, reading a book, reading the Bible, reading a devotional or even listening to music, your day has more of a chance at being amazing, being eventful, and being joyful.

I often wake up with a song in my head. I am unsure why?  I can’t even remember what the song is at times, but I know there was a song.  I believe that when that happens, that it is God waking me up with pleasant music filling my heart.  I then go on to reading a devotional and off to work where amazing songs of joy fill the office.  My day is filled with such soul fulfilling songs that each day I encounter is complete with joy.

This also rolls over to the gym when I work out.  The playlist I choose is important for how my workout will go.  If I work out in the morning, I often have inspirational music on my mix to warm my heart. If I work out later in the day, it may be more of a ‘pump’ mix.  Regardless of what playlist I have on, it will set the tone of my workout.

My son is a Personal Trainer and he often points out the benefits of music while working out:

  • Increases focus
  • Makes your train harder
  • Helps push you to true failure

I was going through my playlists and a few songs stood out that are on each of my playlists.

  • Lauren Daigle – You Say
  • Matchbox Twenty – How Far We’ve Come
  • Kate Bush – Running Up That Hill
  • Eminem – Lose Yourself
  • Shakira – Wake Waka
  • Luis Fonsi + Justin Bieber – Despacito

Each of these songs – the way they sound and the words they sing – not only fills my heart  – they also set the tone of my day to day, my workout, or my working day.  It is very important for my heart and my daily joy.

Music fills your soul.  Music can lift your spirits. Music can push you harder. Music can increase your focus.  Music is a necessity of life.

So, what’s your song?  How will you go about your day today?  How about starting fresh and new tomorrow?  If you set an alarm to get up – pick an inspirational song (if using your phone) to ease your mind into the morning.  Take some time to read a devotional to set your soul right for the day.  If you drive to work, or even at work – listen to music that inspires you, makes you smile, or taps into that memory bank of those ‘good old oldies’.  Begin a new routine of filling your heart and soul with music.  You will not only see a difference in your stress levels, your day to day focus, but your soul will feel happier and more joyful.
