Family Game Nights
How often do you have family fun? Do you make the time to explore with your family? Laugh with your family? Play with your family? My family is all grown up, but we still love to have fun together. Something we love to do is the old traditional family game night.
If you die and get cremated, you can be put in an hourglass and still participate in family game nights… Dale Zearfaus
My husband and I love games and we have instilled that into both our children. We all have a tiny bit of a competitive edge and love to get together and play a game – a family game night adventure. Some games we love to dive into include:
- Boggle
- Scattegories
- Scrabble
- Play Nine
- Darts
- Card games like Cheat or Spoons
- Pool
- Escape Rooms
There is something about sitting around the table and being together – laughing and joking around. It pulls out the child in you and digs deep at that sense of child-like play we all yearn for. You can see each other strategizing or pondering on the next move and giggling if you were about to be sneaking at a good play. Family game nights create and maintain an important family bond and a sense of togetherness that keeps a family close.
Reasons Family Fun Nights Are Important:
- Laughter
- Get to know more about each other
- Strengthen stability in the home
- Bonds families together
- Ground families in shared values
- Builds a strong family identity
- Great for motor skills and brain function
- Increase academics (if you have school-aged children)
- Increases problem solving skills
- Just plain fun
For us, nothing is more joyful than sitting with friends and family and playing a game. It’s a great ice-breaker as well for any newbies into the family. The walls come down and the fun shines.
As you may have read in a passed blog – Laughter is highly important and doing something fun with your family is equally important. Laughter and fun create a comfortable atmosphere and brings people closer all while improving your mood and decreasing stress. You see… having a family game night not only creates a fun atmosphere for your family, it also has many health benefits that goes a long way.
Why not try a family game night this week? Every chance we get, we are having fun together as a family. Even if our two children aren’t home, my husband and I will break out a game or play a round of darts. People are designed to have fun. To laugh. To have a child-like sense of adventure to make you feel young again.
