Best Version Of Yourself

If you were to ask yourself if you were living the best version of yourself, would you answer honestly? It’s a good question to ponder. It’s also a good question to answer and a good question to learn from.
Always be a first rate version of yourself instead of a second rate version of someone else… Judy Garland
One of my favourite authors is Nicholas Sparks. I have read every single book of his. From his first one – the Notebook, to his current one – Counting Miracles. I am not quite finished Counting Miracles yet (as of writing this), but once again, I find myself deeply absorbed in the tales of these characters, beautifully set within the Carolina’s picturesque towns.
There was a fabulous quote early in this book that a character had said:
“I was just thinking that Monday is the perfect day to start being the best version of yourself, since you’ve got six more days to practice”.
Isn’t that such a great quote?
Isn’t that such a great insight?
Isn’t that a great way to live your life?
What if we all began each Monday being the best version of ourselves. We may have slips and falls, but that is why we have 6 more days to practice. Six more days to improve. Six more days to better ourselves.
I do believe if we all started this weekly practice, that we would begin seeing each other in a much different light. A softer light. A more empathetic light.
I also believe that if we all started this weekly practice, that Mondays would no longer be that dreaded day of the week that weighs many of us down. Mondays would change into a day to look forward to. A day filled with excitement and joy.
Reading that profound quote in Counting Miracles certainly changed my perspective on Mondays. Not that I ever really dreaded Mondays. I, for the most part, get excited about a new week and what it’ll bring. However, I love the back end of that statement – that we have six more days to practice. We are all imperfect beings who deep down know we could ALL better ourselves.
So, in a few days when Monday comes around again – instead of dreading that first day of the week, how about stepping into Monday with the intent of being the best version of yourself. If you slip and fall into a Fred In The Head moment or become unintentionally self-focused – you need not to worry! You have six more days to practice and improve.
