The Importance of Being Patient

Have you noticed since the dawn of the smart phone – our society’s expectations are on high demand? With information available at the click of a keyboard, we’ve adopted a “need it now” mindset—often without realizing the cost. I know I have certainly fallen into that mindset when I have texted someone and don’t get a response right away.

I’m currently reading a devotional called The Importance of Exercising Patience on the Bible YouVersion App, and it’s a powerful reminder of how uncomfortable or annoying waiting has become in today’s culture. If given the option, many of us would gladly skip the waiting altogether. Yet the waiting process is often where growth happens and bypassing it can be impractical—and even harmful.

Patience is not simply the ability to wait – it’s how we behave while we’re waiting…. Joyce Meyer.

When we rush decisions to avoid discomfort or even to just regain our own sense of control, those choices often come back to haunt us. Acting impulsively on emotions can affect not only the present moment, but future outcomes as well.

Patience can feel outdated to some or even weak in a world that values speed, instant success, and overnight results. When those results don’t come quickly, frustration and disappointment set in. But patience allows us to pause, reflect, and respond wisely instead of reacting emotionally.

Choosing patience helps us avoid unnecessary stress and places our trust in God rather than quick fixes. It grounds us, keeps us steady, and gives us clarity. In patience, we find space to breathe—to respond with intention rather than regret.

Patience also builds strength. Delays and setbacks are not failures; they’re part of the journey and the path you are currently on. Those who are patient understand that endurance matters more than speed, and growth often happens slowly.

While impatience can ignite stress and anxiety, patience provides peace. It’s not about doing nothing—it’s about consistently showing up, choosing faith over frustration, and trusting that answers will come in time.

Our world rewards speed, but life tends to reward those willing to wait. When we slow down and trust the process, we receive outcomes tailored specifically for us.

So, the choice is simple: live life anxious and on edge, chasing instant answers—or persevere through uncertainty, trusting God has you exactly where you need to be.

For me, I choose the latter.

Happy.
Content.
At ease.
Calm.
Satisfied.

If you’re seeking a change in your well-being, choose patience over impatience. Happiness is a gift. When you fill your heart with patience, you’ll find your soul filled with joy, calm, and contentment—and your daily life becomes far more peaceful. Who wouldn’t want that?
