Moulin Wakefield Mill
Recently, you may have read about the Nordik Spa in Chelsea Quebec – a local get-a-way my husband and I often frequent. Well, we have found another local gem. Over my birthday weekend, my husband surprised me with a night away at the Moulin Wakefield Mill. All I can say is – FABULOUS!

For years, my husband and I have talked about going to the Moulin Wakefield Mill. We’ve only seen photos and reviews online about the establishment, but when we arrived, it exceeded any expectations we had developed.
Where Do I Find Moulin Wakefield Mill And What Will I See?
Location: Wakefield Quebec – about 30 minutes from Ottawa.
The Moulin Wakefield Mill is an old flour mill built in 1838 nestled in a town along the Gatineau River and Le Peche River. The Mill sits next to rippling rapids and waterfalls as well as an entrance to Gatineau Park. The scenery is picture perfect for a romantic get-a-way. The establishment consists of quaint hotel guestrooms, fine dining, a full-service wellness spa (Holtz Spa), outdoor saunas and a hot tub, and an area for an intimate meeting, retreat or reception. The Mill also displays – throughtout its establishment – local artisans with exquisite pieces available for purchase should you choose.
The package my husband chose included our 1-night stay, a couple’s massage and breakfast. The massage day and time was prebooked at time of room booking and it was explained to arrive early in order for us to use their hot tub and sauna area outside.
Arrival:
Upon arrival, we checked in and our room was ready for us. One cool small detail was that my husband received a text when we were on route stating that our room was ready for our arrival. We brought our belongings upstairs to our room, got situated and then quickly changed into our swimsuits to enjoy the hot tub and outdoor sauna.
Sidenote: When we entered our room, there was a handwritten note and a jar of local honey placed on the bed – stating Happy Birthday from their team. A very pleasant and kind touch.
Hot Tub/Sauna:
Their outdoor hot tub and sauna area overlooks a gorgeous river and waterfall – part of le Peche river. Our time outside enjoying it was wonderful with the sounds of the rippling water and snow softly falling. Simply beautiful.
Holtz Spa:
Our massages at Holtz Spa were scheduled for 2:00 pm and once inside their spa, we were greeted warmly by their terrific team. Our couples massage was delightful. I highly recommend booking a massage while staying here. Their spa facilities and team are top notch and a variety of different options are available.
On-Site Restaurants:
Within the Mill, there are two restaurant options – La Muse (offering a 5-course discovery experience or a 3-course table d’hote as well as their morning breakfast) and Heron Wine Bar (offering a Bistro menu for lunch, dinner or a snack). Both locations exhibit local artisan work as well as throughout the Mill establishment. Wondering around inside gazing at the amazing local artist’s work we stumbled upon the Heron Wine Bar. Inside you will find a large double sided fireplace, more local artisan pieces, board games, a pool table and live music.
For the included breakfast, we ate at La Muse. We were seated within large atrium style windows overlooking the waterfall and river displaying the soft white snow while it fell. Breakfast was delightful with many options to choose from.
Side Note: For dinner, we decided to walk down the road to Café Le Hibou restaurant for a nice meal. The walk was lovely along the quiet river-lined road and Café Le Hibou Restaurant had an amazing burger that satisfied my appetite.
Also within the Mill is a lovely intimate conference/meeting room which would be picture perfect for an intimate reception, bridal luncheon, or small business conference.

Overall, I would highly recommend Moulin Wakefield Mill Hotel. Whether it would be for a weekend get-a way, a romantic night away, or a day trip to their spa, you will be treated like royalty. Slip away into a secluded old-world charm and return home refreshed, renewed and rejuvenated. We will be definitely returning again.
