Magic In The Mundane

awe

Do you try new things?  Search out new experiences?  Have an adventurous side?  Or even in everyday life – do you drive a new way to work?  Make the best of each day?  Start your day with a smile?  Experiences can create a sense of awe inside of us.  From extravagant adventures to simple jaunts like driving a different way – each new experience can create magic in the mundane.

Real magic is not about escaping the mundane, it’s about finding joy in it… Anonymous

I read a devotional a while back called The Secret Power of Kindness.  A great devotional about finding ways or ‘keys’ to changing the world.  Your day-to-day life does not have to be all fireworks and excitement, but rather how you make a mark on each day yourself – even in the mundane.  From forgiveness and being generous to staying calm under pressure and bringing unity into your life.  These ‘keys’ are important in changing your world, as well as providing you with some magic in the mundane.

Every day when we wake up, we have a choice.  We can smile, be grateful and enjoy the day… or we can just survive the day.  How do you wake up?  How do you go to bed?  My husband laughs at me because every night when I crawl into bed, I have the biggest smile.  I love sleep. I love getting into our cozy bed, all warm with the covers… it provides so much comfort to my soul.  It provides a huge smile to my face.  When morning comes… that smile is still there.  I get up, give my gratitude to another amazing day and set my sights on whatever God has planned for me that day – being in awe of the world awakening.

Awe is something set deep within all of us.  We were born to experience awe on a regular basis.  Without awe moments, our souls can wither away (as explained by the author – Greg Atkinson – of The Secret Power of Kindness)

How can we search for or experience those awe moments?

  • Be open to the day
  • Start your day with a smile
  • Start your day with gratitude (Click HERE to read about being grateful)
  • Eliminate judgement from your mind.  Judgement can cloud your thoughts and cause those thoughts to be negative.  Smiling and keeping an open mind will offer a more positive mindset
  • Take a walk on a different path
  • Drive a different way to work
  • Be generous and helpful to someone you know
  • Laugh more – as a result – this will allow more joy into your life
  • Learn to let go of over-controlling – this will allow for peace
  • Embrace being patient.  It’ll do wonders for you.

Your life is how you choose it.  If you make the choice to be joyful daily, create fun in any situation, and find the magic in the mundane moments of your everyday lives… you will see such kindness in today’s world.  You will have those ‘awe’ moments.  A world where others are happy and laughing, not negative or judgmental.

Having magic in the mundane doesn’t mean that you don’t ever experience anything significant or adventurous.  Life is about experiencing the new.  It’s about taking pleasure in the now.  Being joyful in the now.  Seeing those ‘awe’ moments in the now.

As you go about your day today – whether that is taking care of your children at home, heading off to work in the corporate world, or simply going about your day with errands, coffee with a friend or loved one, and providing for your family – keep your eyes open for those ‘awe’ moments.  Those unexpected moments where a smile comes out of nowhere.  Those heartfelt moments where a friend makes you laugh.  Those touching connections when your spouse or child gives you a welcome home hug.

Those are the moments to cherish deep in your heart.  The magic in the mundane everyday life events that sometimes we take for granted.

I cherish every day I have.

Every smile and I love you from my husband. Every hug and laugh from my children.  Every text from my dad and every moment that I can help another.  Those are my magical ‘awe’ moments in life and they fill my heart up daily.
