Summer Reset: The Power of Pause

It’s easy to fall into the rhythm of go, go, go—working nonstop, skipping meals, putting workouts aside, and sacrificing sleep just to get everything done. But living like that doesn’t just affect your body… it affects your inner spirit too. I know Spring is technically still in full force, but maybe it is time for a Summer Reset…. before actual Summer arrives.
I just finished reading a great devotional called ‘Soulful Summer Reset’. It really showed me to focus more clearly on what is important and how to refocus my thoughts and day.
When you’re exhausted, it’s hard to hear God. Your mind feels foggy, your patience is thin, and you’re running on empty. Eventually, your body starts to show it—headaches, tension, burnout.
We weren’t designed to live in constant motion.
We were created to pause.
Somewhere along the way, exhaustion became something we quietly celebrate – almost like a badge of honour.
“I didn’t stop all day.”
“My list just kept growing.”
“I finally sat down at the end of the night, completely drained.”

However, busy doesn’t mean better. And exhaustion isn’t something to strive for. Although, I know plenty of women who feel if they aren’t busy busy busy all the time, they are then a failure. (But.. that’s a day for another blog).
What if, instead, we became more intentional?
Intentional about moving our bodies.
Intentional about getting enough rest.
Intentional about creating quiet moments.
Because those quiet, unplanned pauses? They’re sacred. Stillness creates space—for clarity, for peace, and for connection with God. Starting your day in quiet, even for a few minutes, can shift everything. A short devotional, a prayer, or simply sitting in silence allows you to begin your day grounded instead of rushed.
It doesn’t have to be long or perfect. Just intentional.
Because God’s voice is gentle—and if life is too loud, it’s easy to miss it.
You’ve now set the tone for your day because we all know that there will be distractions or hiccups that throw you off centre. They pull at your attention, chip away at your peace, and slowly steal your joy if you let them.

But your joy isn’t something to give away.
Even in challenges, even when things feel hard, your joy is worth protecting (stay tuned for an upcoming blog on JOY). Obstacles aren’t a sign that you’ve been forgotten—they can be a sign that something big is coming.
So don’t give up your joy to busyness, discouragement, or overwhelm. I know it’s hard. I have a hard time with this when something doesn’t go as planned. I can (and have) get quite flustered and with the help of my family and a much needed quiet moment – my focus can become clear again.
So, fight for it. Because when you stop choosing joy, you slowly lose it. This summer, let your reset be simple.
Pause more.
Breathe deeper.
Begin your day peacefully.
It’s not about being perfect (like last week’s blog Polished And Perfect stated) —but about being intentional.
Because when you build your days around stillness and connection, everything else begins to fall into place. And that’s where true peace lives.
