St Jacob’s Staycation
Have you ever been to Waterloo? Kitchener? St Jacob’s? We travel to Waterloo a lot. One of our children attends University not far from there and we often require a place to stay either upon pick up or drop off due to having a near 5 hours drive. The Holiday Inn Express and Suites – St Jacob’s has been that special place that has become our saving grace whenever we are in town. A little St Jacob’s staycation.

Why we choose the Holiday Inn Express and Suites – St Jacob’s over and over?
- Location
- Area Amenities
- Hotel Amenities
Location:
Getting to the Holiday Inn Express and Suites – St Jacob’s is super simple. It is located just off Hwy 85 or minutes away from both major Universities in Waterloo (University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University) via Weber Street or King Street. The town of St Jacob’s is also only 5 minutes away north of the hotel.
The area amenities surrounding the hotel is a fabulous must see and do list:
- St Jacob’s Farmer’s Market
- St Jacob’s Outlet Mall
- Market Road Antiques
- Jack’s Family Restaurant
- Max’s Sports World
The farmer’s market is open every Thursday and Saturday and is abundant in food items, flowers, crafts, books, country décor and hidden surprises. Each time we venture over – just for a look- we come back arms full of garlic spreads, flowers, records, books, or sunglasses. It is a definite must see attraction.
Hungry for some home cooked feel food? Jack’s family Restaurant will satisfy any craving you have. The staff is super friendly, the portion size is out of this world and the flavours of any dish will leave your mouth watering for more. (You can even get take-out to bring back to your hotel room if you prefer).
If you and your family are in search of some fun, then within walking distance from the hotel is Max’s Sports World. This place is fantastic. We enjoyed Axe Throwing the last time we were there as a family, but they also have mini putt, batting cages, and a driving range to chose from. We spent our entire time there laughing. I would highly recommend this place for family fun or even a date night.
So, now that I have touched a bit on the area attractions, what about the Holiday Inn and Suites – St Jacob’s hotel? What does it have to offer?
Amenities of The Holiday Inn and Suites – St Jacob’s:
The hotel is situated across the street from the Farmer’s Market and the Outlet Mall. The staff is welcoming and eager to help and make your stay comfortable and relaxing. We collect IHG points, so we are often surprised and grateful to be upgraded to the next room level upon our stay. When we stay as a family, we tend to book a suite since it allows the four of us a nice spacious room to relax in.
The Suite we book has 2 queen beds, a pull out couch and a kitchenette for our basic needs. Wifi is always included and we can easily watch Netflix or stream shows with no difficulties.
Another great room is the King Executive. I stayed in this selection my last stay since it was just me. A perfect size room with a Keurig machine, microwave and a work station area if needed.
Breakfast (on a ‘normal’ year), is buffet style with plenty of options to choose from and replenished very frequently:
- Coffee/tea
- Selection of juices
- Fruit cups
- Bananas
- Pastries/Muffins
- Bread/Bagels/English Muffins
- Eggs
- Sausages or Bacon
- Pancake Machine
Breakfast (currently) is box style:
Upon waking up you are instructed to head down to the front check-in desk. You are then given a choice of boxes. A ‘meat’ box or a ‘bagel’ box.
The Bagel Box contains:
- Bagel
- Jam
- Yogurt
- Banana or Tangerine
- Muffin
The Meat Box contains:
- Breakfast Sandwich (egg/sausage/cheese) which you heat up in your personal in-room microwave
- Yogurt
- Muffin
I have eaten both choices on separate visits and each was delightful.
Sidenote: They are currently not offering the ‘Meat’ box. Only the bagel box. I put in a request with management to consider revising that option in order to provide their loyal costomers with a choice. So hopefully our next visit will surprise us with the delicious meat box again.
The hotel is equipped with a fitness centre and an indoor swimming pool as well. So whether you are there with children who love to swim or for yourself to keep up your daily workouts, the Holiday Inn Express and Suites – St Jacob’s has you covered. The facility also has meeting rooms if you are there with a larger group or conference where the lovely Holiday Inn Staff can arrange anything that is of need or required to make your stay complete.
In all the years we have been staying at this fantastic establishment, we have never been bothered by noise, smoke or any other disturbances. The staff here make a point to ensure your stay is comfortable, all of your needs are met, and has countless suggestions for dining or things to do in the area.
Making the Holiday Inn Express and Suites – St Jacob’s your go-to hotel to stay in while visiting the Waterloo area for pleasure or for work will certainly not disappoint you. Go ahead. Give it a try. A St Jacob Staycation may be just what you need. So, go – pack your luggage and create some well deserved laughter with your spouse or family. A weekend staycation may be just what you need this spring. It’s definitely what you deserve.
