A Celebration Day

When you look at a calendar, what do you see? Do you see month-by-month glimpses at days, events, special holidays like Christmas, Easter, Canada Day or birthdays? Do you see what needs to be done – like bills, chores, or a work itinerary? What about a Celebration Day? Do you have that marked on your calendar?
Celebrate the people in your life who are there because they love you for no other reason than because you are you… Many Hale.
You’re probably asking yourself – What’s A Celebration Day?
Let me explain; but first a bit of back story….
A few months ago, we met an amazing couple on holiday. We hit it off immediately. Same sense of humour. Same values. Same interests. It was like we had all known each other for years. That type of ‘comfortable connection’ you have with your long-lost friend.
Returning home, we messaged each other quite frequently with each sharing about our day, TV show suggestions, upcoming events and as well as milestones. We brightened each other’s day with a simple ‘hello’ which was so lovely since we lived about 1400 km apart.
The other day, we had a post office slip stuck to our work door – stating we had missed a delivery. Neither of us could think of anything we had ordered so we were puzzled at what it could be. The next day, we picked up the package. To our amazement, it was from our new friends and it was a joyful celebration day gift.
When we messaged them to say thank you – they simply replied:
“We needed something to celebrate and thought we could celebrate you!”
This amazing gesture and gift brought tears to our eyes and filled our hearts up with so much joy. These two amazing people – whom we just met – went out of their way to celebrate us and with one simply thought – they touched the lives of people they barely knew.
So, what exactly is a Celebration Day?
Simply put – it is choosing someone to celebrate at some point in the year – not on a specific holiday or event, but rather ‘just because’ and on ‘any normal day’.
We were put on this earth to serve others and this amazing couple certainly has that down pat! Their selfless hearts took the time to plan, think about and package up the most splendid gift for people they barely knew.

Whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.. Proverbs 11:25
Our new friends will never really know the impact their generous gift from the heart has done, but I am hoping by sharing this blessing that others will also have an impact.
How do you begin a Celebration Day?
- Think of someone to celebrate.
- Search out something you know they’d love. It doesn’t have to be purchased (it can be a home-baked pie or cookies. Even a home-made card or flowers from your garden). If you wish to purchase something and you know they saw something you had that they had admired – get it for them.
- Secretly give it to them. Either by mailing it or dropping it off with a nice note or card.
This simple act of kindness will not only spread joy to someone you love, admire or care about, but it will also have a ripple effect on your own heart. Serving others will fill your own heart with joy.
So, look through your calendar and your list of loved ones. Pick a special day to begin your Celebration Day. It can be right away – or in the near future. Whatever your heart calls upon. Listen to your heart – that is a whisper from God nudging you towards that special someone to acknowledge and celebrate.
I know I will be having my ears open for that whisper and nudge and I can’t wait to plan our Celebration Day moment.
