Off The Beaten Path
Don’t you find that the best adventures are those unexpected out of the way spots? Those areas or locations that just seem to pop out of nowhere while driving? Or those places you stumble upon because you were lost? I love these amazing finds. Those off the beaten path adventures during our travels just seem to be some of the best moments that we still talk about.

My husband and I love to explore and travel. Whether that is close to home or far away like Ireland. Regardless of the location, we try to find some ‘non-touristy’ locations or keep our eyes open to see what may come.
There is something to be said about planning and organizing a vacation – however, it is necessary to leave room for those spontaneous finds. I am quite a planner. Oftentimes [in the past], I would leave no room for those special spontaneous moments, but, overtime I have learned that some of our best adventures were those spots we just fell upon.
For Example:
While in NYC – we were walking in the Upper West Side and fell upon an Antique show. While walking around checking out the booths, there was an Antique TV show being filmed and my husband and I were asked to take part in the snippet. We are unaware if that segment ever aired, but it was such a great experience to be apart of.
While in Boston – we found a schooner ship that did half-day ‘day’ trips around Boston Harbour. That day was one of our favourites by far!
While in Ireland – we fell upon many off the beaten path sites. The Hidden Village of Galboy, Kanturk Castle, Minard Castle, a hidden beach, many churches, family heritage sites, and St Patrick’s chair and well.
Yes, we saw many amazing sites in which we researched as well, but these other moments that we happened to fall upon were simply amazing.
There is something to be said about discovering a new site or exploring a place that no one is around. I imagine it is what it would have felt like back in the day when new world explorers were arriving in different countries. The wide-eyed faces and excitement as you pan the glorious beauty of God’s canvas and the hidden gems of off the beaten path adventures.
So, if you are planning on travelling this year – why not leave a bit of room in your planning for some spontaneous finds. Try not to plan out every minute of your travels because it’s in those middle areas – the points between A and B – the off the beaten path adventures – where you just may find a gem.
