Celebration Day

graduation day

How do you celebrate?  Do you have certain celebrations that come up throughout the year that you plan fun events for?  There is the obvious… Christmas, birthdays, or anniversaries, but what about milestones?  Special one-time occasions?  Do you have a celebration day coming up?

Be confident in the direction of your dreams.  Live the life you have imagined… Henry David Thorean

This coming weekend – we get to honour and celebrate our daughter’s university graduation.  When she first left for university at the young age of 17, my heart was so sad.  It felt like a piece of me was removed.  I can honestly say that I struggled.  Over time, my heart became strong and watching her excel at her dreams mended my heart – filled it up with so much love and joy.  We watched her become an independent, strong, talented and brilliant young woman.  She took on and tackled many struggles, became an amazing leader to other first year students (actually being awarded for her leadership by her peers), met some amazing friends and is now entering her new and exciting chapter of life.

As we head into this celebration day – not only am I so incredibly proud of her accomplishments, but so is her dad, brother, grandpa and extended family.  We are so proud that she is going after her dreams and stepping into such an amazing career path.  God gave her the gift to lead others. He also gave her these amazing qualities:

  • A heart made for helping
  • Kindness towards others
  • Leadership
  • Strong in her faith
  • Extremely funny
  • Beautiful on the outside
  • Beautiful on the inside
  • Thinks of others first
  • Incredibly smart
  • Creative

God packaged up our beautiful daughter – gifted us with her – all with those qualities and more.  We couldn’t be more proud of her if we tried.

So, Sweetheart, as you approach your Celebration Day – your Graduation Day – I hope you know that what you have accomplished over your university career will be nothing compared to what you will accomplish in your next chapter.  Your story has just begun. University was just the introduction – the prelude – to what God has planned for you. Graduate school [at Teachers College] will be filled with adventure, more leadership, and all of the necessary steps required to reach the climax of your story.  Your dream has always been to lead and teach children.  God gifted you with that ability and He will make that happen for you.

Note: Looking back on previous graduations – and one to come – tears are already forming. Below is a gallery of graduation pictures from kindergarten, grade 8, high school and a graduation photo from university.

We are excited to watch your story unfold. We are excited to watch you walk across that stage and begin your next chapter.

To quote Dr Suess:

You're off to great places
Today is your day
Your mountain is waiting
So.... get on your way!
heart

I am sure on the Celebration Day, there will be a tear in my eye… who am I kidding??? There will be many tears in my eyes, but – my heart will not be filled with sadness.  My heart will not have a piece that feels removed.  My heart will be exploding with so much love and adoration – 3 sizes that day.  To watch our first born become the woman that God intended her to be.  A faithful, kind, loving leader whose purpose on this earth is to lead others in becoming their best possible self.

We love you

We are proud of you

Now, go and soar into your next chapter with ease.
